About:
North Rockland High School Athletics welcomed the Warwick Valley Wildcats to campus for the 11th Annual Wounded Warrior Project Challenge, bringing together student-athletes from nearly every spring sport for a day centered on competition, service, and community impact.
Before heading to Rockland County, Warwick Valley varsity and junior varsity athletes gathered early in the morning for a team breakfast in the Warwick Valley High School cafeteria, setting the tone for a day built around camaraderie and purpose.
The event officially began with welcome remarks and an inspiring presentation from keynote speaker Tonya Oxendine, a 30-year U.S. Army veteran from Tampa who shared her personal experiences and the impact the Wounded Warrior Project has had on her life.
Athletes from both schools competed across 10 sports at multiple venues throughout the day, including varsity and JV baseball, softball, boys and girls lacrosse, girls flag football, and boys and girls golf.
Competition scoring awarded one point for each junior varsity victory and two points for each varsity victory. This year, North Rockland claimed the overall win, improving the Raiders’ lead in the series to 6-4-1. Warwick Valley earned victories in junior varsity baseball, girls varsity and junior varsity lacrosse, boys golf, and girls flag football.
The overall outcome came down to the final event of the day — girls golf — highlighting the competitive spirit and excitement surrounding the challenge.
Most importantly, the event raised nearly $4,000 through the efforts of Warwick Valley and North Rockland students, families, and supporters. All proceeds were donated directly to the Wounded Warrior Project to support veterans and service members.
Beyond the competition, the Wounded Warrior Project Challenge continues to demonstrate how athletics can unite schools and communities around leadership, gratitude, and giving back.
