About:
Typically, our Varsity Volleyball Team has a Volley for a Cure Tournament in which 12 teams play in. Raffles are held and a concession stand is run. The JV and modified athletes work the tournament.
This year my 14 modified girls wanted to wear the pink jerseys they have worn in the past and play a game dedicated to people in their lives who have been impacted by cancer. With all the concerns and regulations related to Covid-19, we decided not to make any plans to raise money for our typical donations (we have had a few sports teams in the area who have had to pause their season due to a connection to a positive covid case). The purpose of the match was to raise awareness and celebrate those important people in our lives who have faced so much going through cancer and let them know how much they mean to us. On Monday, the girls made posters for the loved one they were playing for and then before the match the students cut ribbons associated with that cancer to go in their hair.
As I stated before, this was a very low-key compared to other years and the varsity and Coach O’Hara do significantly more as part of the service-learning which we encourage our athletes to be part of.
