On Saturday, April 26th, Cold Spring Harbor High School once again hosted the Gains for Brains lacrosse showcase, now in its 9th exciting year, welcoming 20 of the top high school girls lacrosse teams from across the tri-state area and beyond, including one from Pennsylvania. Recognized as one of the premier high school girls lacrosse events in the country, the tournament continues to blend elite athletic competition with a powerful cause.
Since its inception in 2015, Gains for Brains has raised tens of thousands of dollars to support the Making Headway Foundation, a nonprofit organization that assists children diagnosed with brain and spinal cord tumors and their families.
This year’s tournament featured seven nationally ranked teams and dozens of college-bound players, showcasing top-tier talent on the field while also making a real difference off it.
The Cold Spring Harbor girls lacrosse team played a vital role in the event’s success, managing everything from:
-
Play-by-play announcing
-
Program distribution
-
Concession and bake sales
-
Donation tables across both fields
-
Scorekeeping for visiting teams
The athletes worked in organized shifts throughout the day, demonstrating not only their athletic skills but also their dedication to service, leadership, and community impact.
Guests were encouraged to donate upon arrival and enjoy homemade baked goods and a delicious BBQ, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Making Headway Foundation. https://gainsforbrainslax.org/
Whether cheering from the sidelines or volunteering behind the scenes, every participant contributed to the heart and purpose of the day.
Gains for Brains continues to be a shining example of how sports can unite communities, raise awareness, and bring hope to those who need it most.
