Greenlawn, New York – September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month and student athletes in Harborelds are “going gold” to honor the cause.
The Harborelds Athletic Department is committed to promoting and supporting Pediatric Cancer awareness. Head Girls Field Hockey coach, Lauren Desiderio, spearheaded the purchase of HFights t-shirts for all teams and gold ribbon socks were donated by local organization, Corey’s Promise. The JV Girls Soccer team were the rst of the teams to wear the shirts and socks in their game on September 11. Additionally, the Booster Club donated a Pediatric Cancer Awareness banner that will be displayed all month, and Harborelds alumni, Natalie Pedrazzi, generously donated gold ribbons and streamers for athletic events. Natalie started the Greenlawn Goes Gold campaign in 2018 while completing a Girl Scouts project.
“I am incredibly proud to have our athletic programs raise awareness for Pediatric Cancer and to collaborate with outstanding organizations like Corey’s Promise, Maggie’s Mission, and former student Natalie Pedrazzi during her Greenlawn Goes Gold initiative,” said Rob Franco, Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics for Harborelds. “These causes are deeply personal to our Harborelds school community, and it’s an honor to be part of such meaningful work.”
The connection to pediatric cancer in Harborelds is far reaching with many other families being impacted by this disease. It is an extremely important cause not only to the Athletics Department, but to the entire Harborelds Central School District.
