Mattituck Junior-Senior High School 12th graders dedicated their time to give back to the community by participating in a decadeslong tradition— Mattituck High School’s Senior Day of Service.
The seniors began their day at the high school, where they participated in a workshop presented by the Southold Town Police Department. They then chose from nine organizations on the East End that help make their community a better place. From there, the supervised students headed out to their designated service-learning sites. These groups included Cutchogue East Elementary School, North Fork Community Theater, Sang Lee Farm, Mattituck-Laurel Library, Cutchogue New Suffolk Library, Cutchogue New Suffolk Historical Council, CAST, Landcraft Gardens and the Southold Town Animal Shelter.
“As a district, we appreciate the opportunity to work with these organizations,” said Principal Patrick Burke. “Before we could send out thank-you letters, we were in receipt of many complimentary emails regarding our MHS students. Our students had many different experiences, from harvesting vegetables at Sang Lee Farms and bringing donations to CAST.”
