Maurice W. Downing Primary School’s Student Council in the Malverne Union Free School District joined together and collected items for its Ukraine Fundraiser. Run by Jenn Eisenberg and Katie Smyth, student council members were overwhelmed by the outpouring of items donated.
They collected three huge boxes of medical supplies, more than 20 huge bags of clothes, 10 bags of coats, three boxes of boots and shoes, four huge boxes of hygiene items, a huge box backpacks with supplies inside and more. All donations were sent to The Supply Drive for the People of Ukraine at St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Center in Uniondale on March 11.
“We teach the students that helping our community is very important,” Katie Smyth said. “We emphasize that it’s important not only to help our school community, but it’s very important to help our world community as well. MWD is always striving to foster a culture of compassion in our school.”
