Mineola Middle School learners are making a meaningful impact on the environment, one recycled device at a time. On Oct. 30, students hosted the school’s annual E-Waste Drive, collecting an impressive 2,230 pounds of outdated and unwanted electronics for responsible recycling.
What started in 2016 has grown into a longstanding tradition of environmental stewardship. Over the years, the school community has helped divert more than 31 tons of electronic waste from local landfills, promoting sustainable disposal practices and environmental awareness.
During the after-school event, community members dropped off items such as computers, televisions, tablets, printers, phones and chargers. Students took an active role in the process, helping collect, organize and catalog the electronics before they were transported for recycling.
“Our students continue to show what can be accomplished when a community comes together around a shared goal,” said Mineola Middle School Principal Amy Trojanowski. “Through their hard work and dedication, they are helping create a cleaner future while inspiring others to make environmentally responsible choices.”
