For over a decade, the Rocky Point Volleyball program has been passionately involved in fundraising for the Sideout Foundation through its Dig Pink initiatives. Since taking over the program in 2015, Head Coach Conor Sussillo has been incredibly proud of the team’s ongoing commitment to combating metastatic breast cancer and supporting vital research. To date, the program has raised more than $70,000 for cancer research, a testament to the dedication and generosity of the Rocky Point volleyball community.
In 2020, the Long Island volleyball community mourned the loss of Matthew “Dezy” DiStefano, a beloved figure who battled Stage 4 Kidney Cancer with unwavering courage. His journey, which he documented with vigilance, continues to inspire many. His legacy lives on through the Dezy Strong Foundation, which aims to support children facing cancer by bringing positivity and reducing stress in their daily lives. Learn more about his story at Dezy Strong Foundation.
Since Matthew’s passing, Rocky Point Volleyball has split its donations between the Sideout Foundation and the Dezy Strong Foundation, ensuring that their fundraising efforts benefit both cancer research and families in need of support.
This year, the team utilized the Snap Raise online platform, generating nearly $5,000 in donations from friends, family members, local businesses, and the broader community. Their annual Dig Pink volleyball event further added to the funds raised. The outpouring of support from the community has been overwhelming, with local restaurants donating food, businesses contributing items for the silent auction, and generous raffle and gift card donations making a significant impact.
Rocky Point Volleyball’s continued dedication to making a difference is truly inspiring. Their efforts not only raise crucial funds for cancer research but also bring hope and support to those affected by the disease. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this incredible cause!
