Homes in the Bayport-Blue Point community are filled with substantially less left-over Halloween candy this month, because students at Sylvan Avenue Elementary School kindly donated their sweet treats for a great cause.
Through efforts by the school’s Veterans Day Committee and peer leaders, 500 pounds of candy is being donated to Soldiers Angels’ and distributed to active troops through the organization’s Treats for Troops Program. Additionally, a box of candy will be donated to the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook, accompanied by thank-you letters written by the students.
