To mark October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members of the Southampton Intermediate School National Junior Honor Society united their peers in several activities to raise funding and awareness about breast cancer research.
Throughout the month, the students sold pink T-shirts and raised $700, which they donated to the Phillips Family Cancer Center Wellness Program. They also decorated pink wreaths and rocks that will be displayed at the center and in their school.
The month culminated with all students wearing pink on Oct. 25 and taking a photo on their school’s field with a giant pink ribbon.
Additionally, to raise awareness and support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Southampton Elementary School Student Council donated $500 to the Coalition for Women’s Cancers of Southampton Stony Brook. Council members garnered the funds through a successful raffle in which fellow students, families and staff purchased raffle tickets for the chance to win a giant pink teddy bear.
