Today, the Waltham High School Field Hockey team takes on Malden Catholic at 4:00 PM at Yetten Field for their annual Pink Game. This special event not only raises awareness for breast cancer but also supports Camp Kesem, a nonprofit organization that helps children cope with a parent’s cancer diagnosis and journey through recovery.
In addition to the game, the team is hosting a bake sale with all proceeds going to Camp Kesem. The choice to support Camp Kesem is a personal one for the program, as several athletes have benefited from the camp over the years. The team has historically donated bake sale proceeds directly to families within their community impacted by cancer, further deepening the connection to this important cause.
This year, the event’s organization was particularly meaningful, as one of the parents—who is a cancer survivor—teamed up with the team. Her daughter, a JV player, has attended Camp Kesem for most of her life and continues to return each year, even now that her parent is in remission. This strong personal tie inspired the team to donate directly to Camp Kesem this year, helping support the camp’s mission to provide children with a supportive community.
Along with baked goods, the team will also be selling pink ribbon pins during the game, with hopes of gathering a generous donation for Camp Kesem to ensure its continued support of children and families affected by cancer.
