Wantagh High School students penned about 100 messages to veterans as part of a new initiative by the student council.
The Thanksgiving Letters for Veterans campaign was spearheaded by student council co-President Danny Donahue. He and fellow officers visited the cafeteria during lunch periods from Nov. 20-22, asking students to write messages of gratitude to veterans.
“We wanted to make it a point to send letter to our veterans to show them how grateful we are and to show them that others are there for them,” he said.
Danny delivered the letters, which were written on sheets with a festive fall border, to the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center prior to Thanksgiving.
