The Westhampton Beach Girls Volleyball program came together for a meaningful Memorial Game honoring the 25th anniversary of September 11.
Led by Coach Sarah Fabian, the team used the day as an opportunity to remember the lives lost, recognize the families and communities forever impacted, and express gratitude to first responders, veterans and active members of the military.
Before the varsity match, the team held a special moment of remembrance. Each player was also asked to write a personal letter of appreciation to a first responder, veteran or active-duty military member within their family or community — adding a personal and meaningful element to the tribute.
Coach Fabian also shared the team’s efforts through the volleyball program’s social media, helping highlight the importance of remembrance, gratitude and bringing the community together.
Families and fans were encouraged to wear red, white and blue, filling the gym with a unified show of patriotism and support. The team also created patriotic displays where players, families and community members could gather and take photos together.
Through this special event, Westhampton Beach Girls Volleyball showed how athletics can be used as a platform for something much bigger than competition — honoring service, strengthening community connections and helping ensure the significance of September 11 continues to be remembered by the next generation.
