About:
The LSI Boys Varsity Basketball team demonstrated leadership, gratitude, and service beyond the court by participating in Wreaths Across America on December 13—a national day dedicated to honoring America’s fallen heroes.
As part of the school’s Cadets in the Community initiative, 11 student-athletes volunteered at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, where they assisted in placing wreaths on the headstones of men and women who served our country. This powerful act of remembrance ensured that each hero was honored, remembered, and thanked for their sacrifice.
The team spent approximately one hour laying wreaths until every gravestone in their assigned section was covered. They then dedicated an additional 30 minutes to helping complete a neighboring section and respectfully observing the ongoing ceremonies taking place throughout the cemetery.
Participation in Wreaths Across America provided the cadets with a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the values of service, sacrifice, and civic responsibility. By taking part in this national observance, the team helped uphold a tradition rooted in respect and gratitude for those who defended our freedoms.
The project was thoughtfully organized through a collaboration between a parent and the boys’ varsity assistant basketball coach, reinforcing the strong partnership between families, coaches, and the school community.
The LSI Boys Varsity Basketball team’s involvement stands as a powerful example of how student-athletes can lead with purpose—using service to strengthen their connection to community and country, and reminding us all that honoring those who served is a responsibility shared across generations.
