About:
The Jonas E. Salk Middle School and General Douglas MacArthur High School community in the Levittown School District spread the holiday cheer with a truckload of toys delivered directly to children in need.
The massive donation made its way to Columbia University Irving Medical Center on Dec. 15, delivered by Salk Principal John Zampaglione and MacArthur Principal Joseph Sheehan, as well as other faculty members. Throughout December, both schools held successful toy donation drives that were supported by staff, students and families. The toys brought smiles, comfort and holiday cheer to children and families when they needed it most. The annual tradition at both schools was started to honor former student Lorenzo Fernandez, who passed away after receiving treatment at the medical center.
“Beavers don’t just build dams – they build communities,” Mr. Sheehan said. “This holiday season, our community proved once again that when we work together, we can create something truly special for others.”
