About:
Student leaders from John F. Kennedy High School recently stepped beyond their school community to make a meaningful impact through service.
Members of the school’s Student Government volunteered at the Long Island Alzheimer’s and Dementia Center, where they connected with guests through engaging activities, including playing bingo and participating in arts and crafts.
The visit was part of the Student Government’s CARMA initiative, which stands for Cougars as Role Model Americans Program. Through this program, students are encouraged to serve as positive role models by volunteering with local nonprofit organizations and supporting community members in meaningful ways.
By participating in activities and spending time with residents, the students helped create a warm, joyful environment while also gaining a valuable perspective on the importance of compassion and community care.
Programs like CARMA allow students at John F. Kennedy High School to expand their service beyond school events, demonstrating leadership, empathy, and a commitment to giving back to the broader community.
