About:
Students from Lindenhurst Union Free School District recently celebrated Read Across America Day by returning to where their educational journey began—elementary school classrooms.
High school students visited their former teachers’ classrooms to read with younger students and share their love of books. The visit created a special full-circle moment as student leaders stepped into mentorship roles, encouraging the next generation of readers.
During the visits, high school students read stories, interacted with the younger classes, and helped make the national literacy celebration both engaging and memorable. Their presence not only emphasized the importance of reading but also strengthened connections among students across grade levels within the district.
The initiative, supported by the Lindenhurst High School Student Council, reflects the district’s commitment to fostering leadership, community involvement, and a lifelong love of learning.
Events like this demonstrate how older students can serve as role models while reinforcing the message that reading is a powerful tool for learning, imagination, and connection.
