About:
Student-athletes from Adelphi University are continuing their commitment to community service by participating in a special literacy initiative tied to Read Across America.
Organized through the university’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the initiative will bring Adelphi athletes to local elementary schools where they will spend time reading with younger students and encouraging a love of books.
The community service sessions will take place at David Paterson School and Prospect School, where student-athletes will work directly with elementary students to share stories and promote literacy.
Each session will include up to 10 Adelphi student-athletes, who will volunteer their time during the school day to engage with students, read aloud, and help create a fun and supportive learning environment.
Transportation is being provided for the volunteers, and student-athletes are encouraged to wear their Adelphi Athletics or team gear as they represent their programs and the university while serving the community.
Through initiatives like this, student-athletes at Adelphi University continue to demonstrate leadership beyond the field of play, using their platform to inspire young learners and strengthen connections with local schools.
