About:
A powerful night of basketball and community impact unfolded in Dobbs Ferry as the Irvington and Dobbs Ferry boys basketball programs came together for a meaningful mental health awareness event supported by the JCK Foundation.
More than just a competitive matchup, the evening highlighted the importance of supporting one another, fostering open conversations around mental health, and using the platform of athletics to inspire younger students and community members. The energy in the gym reflected not only the intensity of the rivalry but also the shared commitment both programs demonstrated toward creating a supportive and compassionate environment.
A historic moment added to the significance of the night when Irvington standout Anthony Ficarrotta set the all-time Section 1 scoring record. His achievement served as an inspiring reminder of the leadership and role-model influence student-athletes can have both on and off the court.
The game also marked the second annual “Oar” rivalry contest, with Dobbs Ferry evening the series. Beyond the final score, the event emphasized teamwork, mentorship, and the importance of making mental health conversations more approachable for young people.
By bringing their communities together around a meaningful cause, both teams demonstrated how athletics can be a powerful vehicle for awareness, connection, and positive change — a strong example of the impact student-athletes can have through service and leadership.
