About:
Members of the Longwood High School Football program recently stepped into leadership roles off the field by visiting Coram Elementary School for a meaningful Abilities Awareness Day. The initiative gave student-athletes the opportunity to connect with younger students while helping build understanding and empathy around different disabilities.
Throughout the visit, the Lions organized and led interactive learning stations focused on topics such as autism awareness, physical disabilities, and the many different ways individuals may learn and experience the world. By sharing their knowledge and engaging in thoughtful conversations, the athletes helped create a supportive and educational environment for elementary students.
The experience not only empowered younger peers with important lessons about inclusion and respect but also reinforced Longwood Football’s commitment to fostering a positive, welcoming culture within their school community. Service efforts like these highlight how student-athletes can use their platform to inspire kindness, promote awareness, and strengthen connections across grade levels.
By giving back in such a purposeful way, the Longwood Lions continue to demonstrate that leadership is about more than competition — it is about making a lasting impact and helping others feel seen, valued, and supported.
