On June 1, Manhasset Secondary School track was filled with energy, purpose and community spirit as middle school students participated in the school’s inaugural “Smiles for Miles” walk-a-thon. The debut event was a resounding success, bringing the community together to raise a $7,000 to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities.
The day-long initiative engaged all seventh and eighth graders, with groups of students rotating onto the track throughout the day to walk in support of the cause. The event culminated in the afternoon, when the entire middle school student body gathered in the stands for a unified closing ceremony.
Adding an extra layer of enthusiasm to the event was a friendly fundraising competition between the grades. While the students covered the physical miles on the track, it was the overwhelming generosity of Manhasset families, neighbors and friends providing the financial backing that pushed the grand total to $7,000.
The initiative also saw incredible support from local commerce. Numerous area businesses stepped up as community partners, generously donating an array of raffle prizes that kept student excitement high throughout the day.
Manhasset Public Schools extends its deepest gratitude to every parent, community member and local business sponsor who helped make this Smiles for Miles a success. This inaugural event beautifully demonstrated the remarkable impact the Manhasset community can make when stepping up together for a wonderful cause.
