About:
Commack High School soccer is showing how student-athletes can use their platform to support causes that matter throughout the community.
Across September and October, the boys and girls soccer programs are taking part in a series of special games and fundraisers focused on childhood cancer awareness, breast cancer support, and the memory of Danny Mihnovich.
One of the first events is the Commack Boys Varsity Soccer Go Gold fundraiser on September 14 against Connetquot. The game will support childhood cancer awareness and encourage the community to come together behind children and families impacted by cancer.
On September 26, Commack JV Girls Soccer will also Go Gold during its game against Brentwood, supporting children’s cancer awareness in honor of the Daniela Conte Foundation.
Breast cancer awareness will be another major focus. On October 3, Commack JV Girls Soccer will host a Kick for a Cause game against Garden City, followed by a special October 4 fundraising event where JV and varsity girls soccer players will sell pink bows, bracelets and hair extensions to support the cause. Then, on October 5, Commack Girls Varsity Soccer will continue the effort with another Kicks for a Cause fundraiser against Patchogue-Medford.
That same day, the Commack soccer community will also Purple Out for Danny Mihnovich, with a special game encouraging fans to wear purple and show support for the Danny Mihnovich Fund.
The program is also bringing younger players into the effort through a “Be a Cougar for a Day” event, giving children the opportunity to play alongside Commack High School JV and varsity players and coaches while supporting Danny Mihnovich and related fundraising efforts.
Together, these events reflect a strong commitment to using athletics for more than competition. Commack’s soccer programs are creating opportunities for student-athletes to raise awareness, support families, honor meaningful causes and bring the community together.
