Students at Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School recently learned that sometimes all it takes to make a difference is simply saying “hello.” The school celebrated Start With Hello Week Sept. 22–25 with activities designed to encourage kindness, connection and inclusion throughout the school community.
The week began with “Talk to Someone New Tuesday,” encouraging students to step outside their usual circles and say hello to three people they did not know. Students were invited to use their own personal style of saying hello, whether through a wave, a smile or a simple “hi.”
On Wednesday, students participated in “Show Our Thanks Day,” taking time to recognize the people who make a difference in their school community. Students were encouraged to write or draw a thank-you note to a trusted adult at school or take a moment to express their appreciation to a friend.
Thursday brought “Be Seen in Green,” with students wearing green in recognition of Start With Hello Week. Students also participated in a color hunt, searching for green items inside and outside the school.
The week concluded with “Moving Forward Fri-YAY,” when students were encouraged to make a “Start With Hello” promise to keep the spirit of kindness, connection and inclusion going throughout the school year.
Through these simple daily activities, Frank J. Carasiti Elementary students were reminded that something as small as saying hello can help someone feel seen, welcomed and connected.
