The Albany football community is coming together on Friday, September 19th, to support the Randy Shaver Tackle Cancer Research and Community Fund. This year’s Tackle Cancer event will bring players, coaches, and fans together in a spirited effort to raise awareness and funds for cancer research through several creative initiatives.
Apparel sales will play a key role, with proceeds from custom-designed Tackle Cancer gear benefiting the cause. Team captains even pitched in by helping design this year’s t-shirts, adding a personal touch to the campaign.
On game day, Albany’s ninth-grade football players will be on hand to encourage donations. Some will greet fans at the gates with collection buckets, while others will take the spotlight at halftime, holding up tackling dummies on the field for audience members to take their shot. Each attempt will cost just $1 per tackle, making it a fun, interactive way for fans to support the mission.
The evening will also include the auction of a team-autographed football, offering one lucky supporter a special keepsake while further boosting contributions.
In total, about 30 ninth-grade players will volunteer their time throughout the night, splitting responsibilities between gate collections and halftime activities.
The Tackle Cancer event reflects Albany football’s dedication to serving the community—transforming teamwork, creativity, and school spirit into meaningful support for cancer research.
