The Kara Fund Mission
THE KARA FUND STRIVES TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF CHILDREN WITH LIFE-THREATENING DISEASES, AND THEIR FAMILIES, BY PROVIDING MATERIAL ITEMS, GOODS AND SERVICES THAT OFFER PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT FOR THEM IN THEIR TIME OF DISTRESS. WE WILL ADVOCATE FOR PEDIATRIC PATIENTS AND PALLIATIVE CARE INITIATIVES WHERE POSSIBLE AND APPROPRIATE.
Smart, athletic, funny and adventurous, Kara MacDougall was an excellent student and born leader who lived every energetic minute of her life to the fullest. While living in Australia as an exchange student during her senior year of high school, she was diagnosed with liver cancer, and died a few months later at 17. She painted these colorful flowers as a thank-you to a family that sent her money for Christmas, and used the money to buy presents for her family and friends. Kara never had the opportunity to deliver the painting, but her family made prints of it to distribute to friends and kept the original at home, where it remains a lasting keepsake of Kara.
Kara and her family lived in East Syracuse and her and her 2 brothers went and graduated from ESM. She was an ESM Girls Soccer Player all through High School. She had a strong group of friends and many have been and still are involved and are board members of The Kara Fund.
The ESM Event
The East Syracuse-Minoa boys and girls JV and Varsity soccer teams host a Kara Fund fundraising event. They have been hosting a Soccer Tournament for about 10 years now every Fall. JV Boys and Girls play and Varsity Boys and Girls play against other local teams. They have also ending the Tournament with an Alumni Boys Game and Alumni Girls Game. All teams sell Kara Fund t-shirts that are worn the day of the event. Profits made on the T-shirt selling go to The Kara Fund. The shirts are not just sold to students but they’re sold to the families and siblings as well. It’s a Family Affair!! On the day of the event parents grandparents aunts uncles students siblings many are wearing the T-shirt.
No entry tickets are sold, they ask for a donation at the front gate. Proceeds go to The Kara Fund.
They have a concession stand throughout the day and proceeds go to the Kara Fund.
