About:
West Islip’s Paul J. Bellew Elementary School welcomed a May 12 visit from the 19th annual Ride for Life and founder Chris Pendergast, whose group works to create awareness about ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease; to raise funds to support research for a cure; and to support ALS patients and their families. With the entire school lining the sidewalk- including student athletes- around the bus circle to show their support, Bellew’s students embraced Pendergast’s message of hope, displaying the banners and sign they had created.
“It was a heartfelt experience for all, and one that our students and staff will always remember” said Principal Rhonda Pratt. Additionally, West Islip High School students , including student athletes-,walked along with the Ride for Life and the district’s Udall Road Middle School cheered on the charity effort.
