About:

In an effort to raise awareness during Disabilities Awareness Month, West Islip’s Paul J. Bellew Elementary School held a “Mile for a Smile” fundraising walk on April 22.

Bearing signs, children and student-athletes from the school were joined in the walk around the adjacent high school track by staff as well as older students from the Beach Street School Helping Hands Club. Donations will be given to both the Ride for Life and the Autism Speaks organizations.

“It was wonderful to see the spirit of compassion towards others from our children as they walked and talked together” said Principal Rhonda Pratt.
