About:
To encourage good sportsmanship while fundraising for a good cause, the Copiague Middle School physical education department hosted its annual Hoops for Heart event to raise money for the American Heart Association.
In the weeks leading up to the event, students were educated in their physical education classes on the dangers of heart disease and ways to keep their hearts healthy and strong. Coordinated by physical education teachers Dan Broadbent, Kristin Havdoglous and Stephen Rebholz, students kept their heart rates up as they hustled through a basketball themed obstacle course. In addition, a portion of the gymnasium was designated for students to demonstrate their basketball shooting and dribbling skills.
With the collaborative efforts of middle school students, the Hoops for Heart event raised more than $2,370.
