About:
Every year we engage in a community service event. This year, with rising prices impacting many in our community, we felt a deep need to lend a helping hand. Our baseball program is guided by a set of five core standards, and one of them is our commitment to the community. Recognizing the unwavering support our community has shown for athletics, we make it a point to give back each year to a different cause.
This year, our focus was on Broadway Academy, where our staff nominated 10 deserving families in need of a Thanksgiving meal. To contribute to this heartwarming cause, our returning varsity players and coaching staff organized a football game that lasted several hours. Alongside this friendly match, we collected various items to donate to the ten selected families at BWA. Remarkably, the players and staff at BWA rallied together and gathered over 400 items for Thanksgiving meals.
Our program recently hosted a golf tournament, and the winning teams generously donated their turkeys to this meaningful cause. Each player and their family contributed a variety of items, including potatoes, fruit, canned vegetables, mac ‘n’ cheese, breakfast items, and desserts. The collective effort was inspiring, and we have attached several pictures from the event, along with the donated items.
Tomorrow, before the break, we will have the privilege of delivering these items and turkeys to those in need. Our student-athletes came together to support the “turkey bowl,” a friendly game with a noble purpose. Athletes and families wholeheartedly contributed food donations towards the Broadway Academy Thanksgiving meal drive, an annual initiative aimed at providing Thanksgiving meals to families in our community.
