About:
The Grand Avenue Middle School community collected nonperishable food items for the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s food pantry, the Community Cupboard.
The food drive was held in conjunction with a Turkey Trot around the school track on Nov. 20. A few hundred student participants walked, jogged, trotted, wobbled and danced their way through the event.
Organized by the school’s athletic director Ben Fisher, the annual event aims to bring awareness to those less fortunate.
“It is part of the Grand C.A.R.E.S. mission to commit ourselves to the community and help people whenever we can,” added Fisher, who is also a Spanish teacher.
