October is breast cancer awareness month and Susan E. Wiley Elementary School in the Copiague School District has joined together in the fight throughout the month. Kicking off their fundraising effort on Oct. 5, student athletes and families were asked to make a donation to “turn the ribbon pink” writing their names on small pink ribbons to fill in a larger pink ribbon that hangs in the main hallway. That event raised close to $300 alone.
The school’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” effort will also include a walk at Jones Beach on Oct. 16.
