About:
The Boys Lacrosse team hosted a special Salute to Service game against Holliston, organized by the players themselves to honor our service members and raise funds for the Wounded Warriors Project.
This event was a great opportunity for the players to give back to their community and express their gratitude for the service and sacrifices of our military personnel. The players took the lead in planning the night, demonstrating their dedication and appreciation for our service members.
It was a memorable evening that showcased the team’s commitment to making a positive impact.
“The salute to service project was more than just a game to the team and myself. This project just really puts in perspective how this team has come so far and the perseverance of all to make something from a small idea during the off-season, to an impactful moment in the community. However, most importantly to us behind all the glitter and gold, was the significance of this event and raising donations for the Men and Women that put their lives at stake for ours.
The organization behind the project, could not have been done without the amazing support from Coach Jackson, Athletic director Jeff parcels and the players and family of this team. Zach, Gavin and I; Contributed to the donations and where the money will end up going. After many conversations and networking we ended up sending the funds to the Wounded Warrior Project. The 3 of us, Along with the help of Shawn, Ryan and Evan. Spent many of our hours after practice planning how we will raise money. We made the decision to set up a table at the front of the Hanlon Field’s entrance, and with the incredible help from our mothers to collect the money during the game, as we raffled off a new smokeless fire pit donated by Site One. We were able to raise a tremendous amount of money and support from all those that contributed to an amazing cause. ” — Colin Towle, Junior Lacrosse player at Medway High School
“We have been planning the event for a couple months prior to the game. My role along with Colin Towle and Gavin Shipos was to set up the fundraiser and decide where the donations would go to. The three of us came up with the idea to donate all of the raised money from our raffle to The Wounded Warrior Project. The raffle was to enter to win a smokeless fire pit. Another role I had was to reach out and try to get a Color Guard to attend our game (we were unable to get the color guard to attend). Across many months we spent nearly 5-6 hours brainstorming fundraisers and reaching out to different connections for a Color Guard and jersey designs.
Most importantly this event was way more than a game to me and my teammates, this game was held to honor those who have served along with those currently serving our country.”
