About:
On Sunday, April 14th, Millbrook’s modified and varsity track teams played a vital role in the success of the 4th annual Millbrook Marathon. Stationed at the 12.8-mile marker, 21 student-athletes and two coaches volunteered at an aid station, providing water, snacks, and encouragement to runners approaching the halfway point. Witnessing the dedication and passion of marathon runners was not only inspiring for our young athletes but also underscored the longevity and community spirit of running.
The event, a staple in our scenic horse farm country, is organized by the Eastern Dutchess Road Runners Club. This year marked the fourth consecutive marathon routed through our town and local roads. The course is now a USATF-certified Boston Marathon Qualifier, attracting an increasing number of participants each year. Information about the event can be found at their official website, www.edrrc.org, and the marathon-specific site at www.millbrookmarathon.com.
The Eastern Dutchess Road Runners Club has consistently supported the Millbrook Central School District Athletic Program by donating all net profits from the marathon. Thanks to their generosity, we’ve been able to enhance our track and field facilities, including upgrades to our high jump stanchions and jump pit, as well as providing new uniforms for our teams.
The student-athletes’ commitment to volunteering at this community event highlights their spirit of service and teamwork. They are grateful for the ongoing support from the Eastern Dutchess Road Runners Club and look forward to continuing this fruitful partnership. They are eager to keep this tradition alive, allowing our student-athletes to contribute meaningfully to our community each year.
