Last week, the Daemen College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held their annual food drive to benefit the Food Bank of Western New York. In its third year, the campus-wide event has raised over 600 pounds of non-perishable food items to benefit over 300 member organizations who help feed the less fortunate in Erie and surrounding county communities.
The Daemen SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of Daemen’s 14 intercollegiate athletic programs, coordinates numerous community service activities throughout the academic year. This specific effort began with distribution of paper bags to all departments on campus. The student-athletes then collected, organized and packed the food for pick up by Food Bank representatives. The Thanksgiving and winter holiday seasons bring increased need and demand to the Food Bank and Daemen Athletics is proud to partner with them on this worthwhile project.
