The Bay Shore Baseball and Softball Teams Unite for Cancer Research Fundraiser
Over the weekend, both JV and varsity softball and baseball teams at Bay Shore High School joined forces to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. The event, spearheaded by Schiro and supported by enthusiastic players, families, and alumni, kicked off at 10 am on Saturday with a lineup of exciting activities.
From defensive skills competitions to cornhole games, the event offered something for everyone. However, the highlight was undoubtedly the home run derby, where players from all grades, along with teams of coaches, parents, and alumni, battled it out for victory. After three intense rounds, a winner was declared, showcasing the talent and camaraderie within the Bay Shore baseball and softball community.
Adding to the excitement was a $5 all-you-can-eat station, with all proceeds going towards the American Cancer Society. Thanks to generous donations and the efforts of everyone involved, the event managed to raise an impressive $1000 beforehand, with an additional $700 collected on the day.
The fundraiser also featured relay throwing races, with teams competing in various throwing challenges to earn points. The competition was fierce, with points awarded for precision and speed, showcasing the dedication and teamwork of the Bay Shore athletes.
After an exhilarating first round of swings, where points were awarded based on the placement of the ball on the field, two top teams advanced to the championship round for a chance at glory. Meanwhile, parents and players enjoyed a $5 all-you-can-drink and eat option, further contributing to the fundraising efforts.
In the end, Schiro and the entire Bay Shore baseball and softball community came together to make a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer, raising an impressive $1600 in total. It was a testament to the power of teamwork and community spirit, showcasing the true heart of Bay Shore athletics.
