About:
The NW JV softball team “Shined Gold” for the kids. On Wednesday May 10th they played for all our kids that are battling or have battled cancer, but especially for dear Sophia the Fierce. Sophia Benintende (a nine year old Williamsville cancer warrior that Coach Ali Gonyea knew) battled Ewings Sarcoma and passed away on May 9th which made the game and cause that much more important to the team. Coach Ali has a non profit with her family called Olivia’s Bears that helps give back to local cancer warriors and their families and is also a part of the Shine Gold campaign, and wanted to have the softball team help spread awareness. The Falcons won their game 17-6 against a very talented Grand Island team. They sported our Shine Gold shirts, yellow ribbons and instead of our usual “hits” or “defense” chants, they chanted “for the kids” and “shine gold”. Our JV and Modified teams raised $1,237.00 by selling yellow ribbons to go towards this years Shine Gold Campaign. The Shine Gold Campaign raises funds for four local non-profit organizations who focus on pediatric cancer and hope to bring that yellow ribbon to the forefront. Thank you to all who donated to our fundraiser and keep Shining Gold for our kids.
