About:
Inspired by a profound loss within their school community, Saratoga High School’s desire to serve was ignited. Olivia Allen, a beloved 2023 graduate, exemplified courage and resilience throughout her battle with Leukemia. Despite her diagnosis before graduation, Olivia faced her illness with unwavering strength, optimism, and perseverance, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. As a talented athlete in field hockey and gymnastics, Olivia’s infectious smile illuminated her journey, touching countless lives along the way.
When Olivia passed away, the team felt a deep sense of sorrow. Determined to honor her memory and continue her fight against cancer, they came together to brainstorm ways to make a positive impact. Thus, they joined forces with the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation and embarked on the LaCROSSe Out Cancer campaign.
Focused on the sobering statistic that 47 children are diagnosed with cancer every day in the US, their campaign aims to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research. With their April 22 game against Jamesville Dewitt dedicated to this cause, they’re rallying their community to support their efforts. During the game, players will exchange 47 passes at the start, symbolizing their commitment to the cause.
Additionally, they’ve launched a social media campaign to spread the word and encourage donations. The response has been overwhelming, with over $5,000 raised in just five days. The team is working tirelessly to organize various fundraising activities, including raffles and concessions, to further support the cause.
Their ultimate goal is to make this an annual event in Liv’s honor, ensuring her legacy lives on. With the hashtag #livelikeliv and their rallying cry of #fightwithasmile, they’re determined to carry on Olivia’s spirit of resilience and positivity.
