For the past three seasons, the Fight Like a Kid childhood cancer awareness games have transformed ordinary game nights into powerful moments of purpose, compassion, and community impact.
This season, six teams have dedicated games to Childhood Cancer Awareness, uniting athletes, families, and fans around a shared mission: supporting children and families battling cancer. All proceeds from this year’s games are being donated to help Gretel, a 15-year-old from the community who is courageously fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
Gretel has spent the past 155 days at Boston Children’s Hospital, undergoing intensive treatment. The funds raised through these games are helping ease the burden on her family, allowing them to focus on what matters most—Gretel’s care, strength, and healing.
So far, two Fight Like a Kid games have already been played, raising over $2,000, with more games still ahead. Through 50/50 raffles, concessions, the 3-Point Pledge, and game matches, the community continues to show up in meaningful and powerful ways for families impacted by childhood cancer.
These games hold especially deep meaning for Team Ava, the Annunziata family’s nonprofit, as each Fight Like a Kid night is held in honor of Ava, whose cancer journey inspired the movement. Ava is now in remission, but the mission continues—to be a positive light for families facing this incredibly difficult battle and to remind them they are never alone.
The Fight Like a Kid initiative is a testament to what can happen when sports, compassion, and community come together. Thanks to the dedication of teams, families, educators, and supporters, these nights prove that awareness leads to action—and that no child and no family fights alone.
