Yorktown Huskers fans, Friday night was more than just a big game—it was an evening where competition met compassion and community ties were strengthened. As the Yorktown Huskers hosted Eastchester in Round 1 of the Class A Playoffs, with kickoff at 6:30 PM, excitement filled the air for an intense and unforgettable match. But the true significance of the night lay in honoring a remarkable person and supporting her family.
They gathered to remember Arlene Connolly O’Neill, a beloved fifth-grade teacher in the Eastchester school district who unexpectedly passed away on October 16th. Arlene was a larger-than-life human being whose beautiful eyes and bright smile could light up a room. Her energy was infectious, and she brought joy to everyone she met. Arlene is gone too soon, and the world now has a void that can never be filled. She will be dearly missed by so many, and hearts are heavy with her loss.
In a powerful display of solidarity, both teams wore green “A” stickers, paying tribute to Arlene’s enduring spirit. Her memory illuminated the field, reminding everyone of the profound impact she had on the community.
Instead of an entrance fee, donations were collected to support her three loving sons, continuing Arlene’s legacy of love and care. Eastchester Football expressed heartfelt gratitude to Yorktown High School and the Huskers community for this generous act, as both teams stood united in this moment of shared purpose.
Fans came to cheer on the athletes and contribute to this meaningful cause, and their presence and generosity made a significant impact. The night was filled with hope, unity, and the kind of love that Arlene embodied. Together, they lifted each other up and celebrated a life that truly made a difference.
For those who would like to make a donation to support Arlene’s family, contributions can be sent to:
