Garden City Boys’ Basketball turned last night’s game into something far bigger than competition, hosting a powerful Blackout for Breast Cancer Night that rallied Trojan Nation around awareness, unity, and giving back.
Fans filled the stands dressed in black as Garden City took on Friends Academy, creating a unified show of support for those impacted by breast cancer. Students, families, and community members came together with a shared purpose, reinforcing that the evening was about more than the final score.
Held in collaboration with Adelphi University, the event raised funds for the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program. Supporters contributed through prize ticket sales and donations, both in person and online, enabling the broader community to support the cause. The fundraiser raised $6,095 in support of the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program.
To further honor the night’s mission, the Garden City players wore special jerseys, symbolizing their commitment to standing with individuals and families affected by breast cancer and helping amplify awareness through athletics.
Reflecting on the impact of the evening, Reyna Machado, MA, MBA, of the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program, shared, “We are truly grateful for the Garden City High School Basketball team for their support.”
Led by the boys’ basketball program and embraced by the entire school community, Blackout for Breast Cancer Night highlighted the powerful role student-athletes can play in driving meaningful impact. By combining school spirit with service, the Garden City Trojans demonstrated how high school sports can unite a community and turn a game night into a moment of purpose—proving that some of the most important victories happen off the court.
