The North Andover and Marblehead girls’ soccer team recently came together for a moving dedication game honoring Sarah Duval and raising awareness for childhood cancer. The event was inspired by Marblehead Coach Lisa Wales, whose family shares deep ties with the Duvals: her son plays hockey with Sarah’s older brother, and Sarah’s mother, Stacy Duval—a NAHS graduate and current kindergarten teacher—has been a long-time member of the community. McKenna Mohr, a current NAHS sophomore and close friend of Sarah, also played in the program as a freshman, further connecting the team to her story.
Senior captains at North Andover: Kate Fy, Cate Scully, Whitney Smith, and Emily Storch led the charge in honoring Sarah. Players wore orange ribbons in their hair as a symbol of support, and the team successfully raised $1,900 for the Sarah Strong Foundation.
The dedication began with heartfelt words from the Athletic Director, setting the tone for a game that went beyond competition. Families, friends, and the broader North Andover community came together, showing the power of unity, remembrance, and giving back. The event was a testament to how sports can inspire compassion, honor a legacy, and make a meaningful difference.
