Half Hollow Hills East Football Lights It Up Blue for Autism Awareness

September 30, 2021 By Team Up 4 Community Leave a Comment

The Half Hollow Hills East Football team is bringing awareness to Autism and special needs throughout their community this fall.

The team had created a flyer that they distributed to the school community to encourage everyone to wear blue for Autism Awareness.

In addition, on Friday the 24th of September the football players spent time hanging out and eating pizza with the IPC class. The students also received football jerseys to wear for this special weekend.

On Saturday, there was an opening Ceremony at the football game to honor the children, IPC teachers, paraprofessionals and parents.

Coach Marcelin shared a few words with everyone at the game.

“Before we start today we would like to thank our Hills East community for being here at our Light it up Blue for Autism Awareness game to support not only our football team but also all of our students with special needs. The tasks that they perform everyday are challenging for them and they never give up. Like a true athlete, they continue to persevere until they have met their goals.  Today we honor their parents, who have been their biggest cheerleaders since day 1, advocating for them and supporting them throughout their everyday
life.  We also would like to honor the teachers and paraprofessionals who work with these students every day encouraging them, believing in them and helping to reach their potential. We are so grateful for all of you coming out to support this cause now LETS GO T-BIRDS.”

The football team also collected donations at the game that will be given  to a charitable cause that supports Autism and special needs.

This amazing act of kindness, support and community has been share in the NYSPHSAA Community Service Challenge.

For the 2021-2022 school year, Team Up 4 Community is excited to once again partner with the NYSPHSAA to encourage Youth Athletes to give back to their communities.

Community Service is an integral part of the Interscholastic Athletic experience. Through community service, student-athletes, coaches, and administrators are able to give back to the communities that support them each and every day!
