Nearly 300 students and families from the Manhasset Secondary School came together on Feb. 11 to support the Million Meals Project, a global meal packing project aiming to fight hunger by providing nutritious meals to families in need.
Students Soraye and Kingston Takahashi proposed the idea of participating in the Million Meals Project through collaboration with the Manhasset Middle School Student Government, led by teachers Eric Shapiro and Nancy Diaz. Together with the Manhasset High School Key Club, led by teachers Samantha Lupa and Angela Zambito, they collaborated with clubs throughout the Secondary School in the name of service to others.
The volunteers worked tirelessly to pack 41,472 meals in about two hours, demonstrating the power of community in addressing food insecurity. Dr. Joseph Owens, director of fine and performing arts and coordinator of secondary activities, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, emphasizing the impact of collective action in creating positive change.
The Million Meals Project reflects Manhasset’s commitment to empathy and community contribution, fostering a stronger, more resilient community for all.
