This season’s New Paltz vs. Dover matchup on September 5th carries a meaning far beyond the field. Dover Football, with roots stretching back to the early 1900s, has always been more than just a team—it’s been a cornerstone of the community. With 25 dedicated players this year, the program continues to play an instrumental role in bringing people together, promoting their games, and serving the community in meaningful ways.
What makes this season especially significant is the team’s commitment to honoring service. At their opening game, Head Coach Christian Jones—a Dover native who returned with a vision to strengthen the program’s bond with the community—will lead a powerful tribute. The team will recognize the names of former players, alumni, and community members who have selflessly served in the military, law enforcement, firefighting, and other vital fields.
That spirit of gratitude will shine brightest during Salute to Service Night on September 5th. This special game will be a heartfelt act of recognition—an evening dedicated to honoring veterans, first responders, and teammates who are preparing to continue that proud tradition of service.
More than just football, this season is about community, gratitude, and remembering that the true measure of a team lies not only in wins and losses, but in how it comes together to honor and support others.
