The 2nd Annual High School Football Supermarket Food Drive, sponsored by Huntington Town Councilman Salvatore Ferro and Huntington Minority Affairs Director Kevin Thorbourne, highlighted the incredible spirit of community and giving within our local high schools. This year’s event was made possible through the participation and dedication of players and parents from Northport High School, Huntington High School, Harborfields High School, Elwood-John Glenn High School, Suffolk County Police Officer Claudia Delgado and members of the public.
Together, these teams collected over 92 shopping carts filled with essential food items, a remarkable display of generosity. The donated items were sent to local food pantries, providing support to those in our community who are confronting food insecurity.
In the friendly competition, both Northport High School and Harborfields High School rose to the challenge, collecting the greatest amount of food and thereby securing their place as winners. As a testament to their dedication, all four teams will be awarded a portion of the $6,000 in scholarship funds provided by the Ferro Foundation. This outstanding achievement not only demonstrates the power of community collaboration but also the remarkable impact that local initiatives can have on those in need. We extend our gratitude to everyone involved for their exceptional contributions, and we look forward to continued success in our efforts to support those facing food insecurity.
