About:
The Doherty Memorial High School Field Hockey team in Worcester, Massachusetts, traded its traditional Maroon and Gold for pink during a special Pink Game against Shrewsbury High School, combining athletic competition with an opportunity to raise awareness for breast cancer.
The Highlanders proudly wore special pink jerseys in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, showing support for individuals and families affected by the disease while bringing an important message to the field.
Adding to the meaningful occasion, Doherty celebrated a 2–1 victory over Shrewsbury, improving its season record to 9–5–1.
Playing for a Purpose
Doherty’s Pink Game was about more than the final score. The event provided an opportunity for student-athletes to use their platform to highlight the importance of breast cancer awareness and demonstrate support for those impacted by the disease.
By exchanging their traditional school colors for pink, the Highlanders made a visible statement of solidarity with individuals and families facing breast cancer.
The initiative served as a reminder that sports can bring communities together around causes that extend far beyond athletic competition.
