About:
The Franklin D. Roosevelt High School (FDR) athletic community came together throughout October 2026 for its annual President’s Wear Pink Campaign, turning fall sporting events into opportunities to raise awareness and funds in support of individuals and families affected by breast cancer.
Led by the FDR Varsity Club and fall athletic teams, the month-long initiative featured Pink Out games, T-shirt sales, bake sales, and community fundraising efforts benefiting the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
As the campaign approached its conclusion, the Presidents had already raised an impressive $1,847, bringing them closer to their $2,000 fundraising goal.
Fall Athletic Teams Unite for Breast Cancer Awareness
From October 13 through October 22, FDR’s fall athletic teams hosted a series of Pink Out games, transforming home sporting events into opportunities to support an important cause.
Student-athletes went beyond simply wearing pink, actively participating in fundraising efforts that brought together teammates, families, coaches, and community supporters.
Each home team helped promote breast cancer awareness while encouraging spectators to contribute to the campaign.
The initiative demonstrated how athletic programs can work together across different sports to make a meaningful impact beyond competition.
Varsity Club Students Lead Fundraising Efforts
A key component of the campaign was the involvement of FDR’s Varsity Club, whose members helped organize and run fundraising activities throughout the Pink Out events.
Students managed T-shirt sales and bake sales, with generous donations and support provided by parents and athletic booster clubs.
Proceeds from the fundraising tables and concession sales were designated for the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
The FDR Girls Swim Team also contributed $110, adding to the overall fundraising total and demonstrating the commitment of student-athletes across the school’s athletic programs.
These efforts highlighted the leadership, teamwork, and dedication of students who used their time and energy to support a meaningful cause.
Raising $1,847 for Miles of Hope
As October drew to a close, the Presidents announced that their fundraising efforts had generated $1,847 for the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
The organization supports individuals and families affected by breast cancer throughout the Hudson Valley.
With a goal of raising $2,000, FDR was just $153 away from reaching its target when the update was shared.
The school community also hoped to match or surpass its 2025 fundraising total of $2,282, reflecting the continued growth and impact of the annual campaign.
Community members were encouraged to contribute through the school’s Miles of Hope fundraising page to help the Presidents finish the campaign strong.
A Community Effort Beyond the Game
The success of the President’s Wear Pink Campaign was made possible through the combined efforts of FDR staff, student-athletes, Varsity Club members, booster clubs, parents, volunteers, and community supporters.
By bringing together multiple athletic teams and incorporating fundraising into home sporting events, the initiative created opportunities for student leadership, service, and community involvement.
The campaign demonstrated how a shared commitment to helping others can unite an entire athletic department around a cause greater than the game.
Making an Impact Beyond the Field
FDR’s annual President’s Wear Pink Campaign is a wonderful example of how student-athletes can use the power of sports to raise awareness, inspire generosity, and support individuals facing difficult challenges.
Through their dedication and teamwork, the Varsity Club and fall athletic programs helped transform school spirit into meaningful financial support for the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
