About:
The William Floyd High School Girls Varsity Gymnastics team combined athletic excellence with a meaningful cause, hosting its annual Pink Meet to raise cancer awareness while celebrating a historic victory over North Babylon/Deer Park.
Led by head coach Rich Daly, the Colonials earned their sixth consecutive win with an impressive 168.8–159.75 victory, recording the second-highest team score in program history.
Competing for a Cause Bigger Than Gymnastics
The Pink Meet provided an opportunity for the Colonials to use their platform as student-athletes to bring attention to cancer awareness and demonstrate the importance of supporting those affected by the disease.
While the competition highlighted the team’s athletic achievements, the event also carried a meaningful message about compassion, unity, and standing together for an important cause.
By incorporating cancer awareness into their meet, the Colonials demonstrated how high school athletics can help inspire positive change beyond competition.
A Historic Performance for the Colonials
The evening was also a milestone for the William Floyd gymnastics program.
With their outstanding score of 168.8, the Colonials achieved the second-highest team score in school history and secured sole possession of first place in League II.
The victory improved their record to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in League II, putting the team in a strong position heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
The team’s performance reflected the dedication, teamwork, and determination of the student-athletes and coaching staff.
Making an Impact Beyond the Mat
William Floyd Girls Gymnastics’ Pink Meet serves as a reminder that the impact of student-athletes extends well beyond scores, records, and championships.
Through their efforts to raise cancer awareness while competing at a high level, the Colonials demonstrated the importance of using sports to bring people together around meaningful causes.
The 2026–2027 NYSPHSAA Community Service Challenge, presented by Team Up 4 Community, celebrates student-athletes who demonstrate leadership, compassion, and a commitment to making a positive difference in their communities.
