During the week prior to the National Football League’s Super Bowl 50 Game, Washington Drive Primary School in the Harborfields Central School District held its second annual “Soup-er Bowl Food Drive.”
Coordinated by the school’s Acts of Kindness Committee, students, faculty and staff donated cans of soup and other canned goods while voting for the team they thought would win the 2016 Super Bowl. Students who contributed to the food drive placed their cans in bins representing the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers.
Through their collaborative efforts, the school collected a total of 264 cans, which were donated to the Harborfields Alliance For Community Outreach program and the food pantry at Washington Drive. In a close finish, 136 cans were collected for the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers ended up with 128 cans.
“The students were really involved and were motivated to donate cans to vote for their favorite team,” said Acts of Kindness Committee Co-chair Jennifer Pennisi.
