About:
After the passing of their classmate, Waylon Sauer, last fall, the junior class officers at MVRHS, in collaboration with some of Waylon’s close friends, join together to create a basketball tournament in his memory. Waylon had been a vital member of the boys basketball team.
They have actively sought sponsors to bolster the event, aiming to gather funds for t-shirt orders. Additionally, they have meticulously mapped out a day dedicated to honoring their friend. Numerous students and community members have already formed teams for the tournament.
Proceeds from the tournament will be directed toward a scholarship established in Waylon’s honor, with 75% dedicated to this cause and the remaining 25% allocated to his class.
For further information about the event and their English class Capstone project, you can visit the website crafted by some of Waylon’s classmates and friends: https://liveforwaylon.org/
Waylon Madison Sauer was a student at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School when his life was tragically cut short by a car accident. Despite his young age, Waylon possessed exceptional intellect and an insatiable curiosity about the world. Proud of his Wampanoag heritage, he had a profound love for the water, earning him the endearing moniker “man of the sea” from an early age. Waylon harbored ambitious dreams of advancing his studies in computer science and exploring the world’s oceans through his passion for surfing.
